Breakout Manchester RSS Feed https://breakoutchester.com/ RSS feed for Breakout Manchester en-us Copyright (C) 2014 breakoutmanchester.com We are Breakout Chester We are Breakout Chester, we are a live room escape game situated in the heart of Chester. We challenge members of the public to be locked in one of our puzzle rooms for 60 minutes while they attempt to escape. With the clock ticking down rapidly the challengers search franticly to find clues and solve puzzles to hopefully piece together all the elements they need to Breakout. Opening to the public on November 11th 2016 we launched with just our Vacancy room in which players raced to escape the room before the serial killer motel manager returns and you are his next victim, and our Wanted room, where you and your gang of Wild West outlaws break in to a Saloon in search of gold and your prized gun! Since our two rooms have launched we have been challenging all of Chester to escape the clutches of our puzzle rooms and attempt to Breakout.nbsp; https://breakoutchester.com/blog/post/we-are-breakout-chester Sat, 26 Nov 2016 17:17:53 +0000 Why not lock up a loved one this Christmas? Stuck for Christmas present ideas? Why not try Breakout! Christmas is fast approaching, and everyone knows at least one person who is difficult to buy gifts for. Whether you're sick of buying soap, candles and socks, a game at Breakout can be a great alternative present. Our games are the perfect gift for that fussy friend or family member - we lock them in a room for an hour and test their brain power with our puzzles, riddles and clues to see if they can escape. It's much more exciting than yet another rainy-day boardgame, with the bonus of our rooms being toasty warm while the Winter weather keeps us all indoors. Group sizes can range between two to five players in a room, so you can even come along to play with whoever you buy the game for (if they want you on their team, that is!). You can either book directly and send them off, or you can phone whichever city interests you and ask them to email you a voucher after you've purchased the game! With a wide variety of difficulty levels in our rooms, you can even choose how challenging you want the game to be. So if you want to test how clever your family members really are, you could go for a five-star difficulty room like Sabotage (in Manchester, nbsp;Liverpoolnbsp;andnbsp;Cardiff) or Madchester (in Manchester). Or if you want to be kind and start them off with something easier, our three-star rooms like Identify (innbsp;Chester), Cursed Carnival or The Detective Office might be the best place to begin. If you know someone who has been down to play our games before and are keen to return for another round of escaping, they might enjoy a medium level of difficulty such as our four-star rooms Virus, The Facility or Wanted so they can put their skills to the test yet again. There's also the option of choosing your room by theme based on what your friend or family member would enjoy more - got a cousin who is a massive fan of the seven seas an all things pirate-y? Then Shipwrecked in our Liverpool centre would be perfect! The team of treasure hunters are to sneak on board the wreck of the Soldado, haunted by the ghostly Captain Chivers - steal his treasure within an hour and live to tell the tale, if not then become part of the skeleton crew! Or if you have a friend who is a big fans of crime dramas, then Cardiff's newest room would be the perfect gift to buy for them. In Disturbed, the team discover a gruesome crime scene in a warehouse, the last known whereabouts of PC Richards who has been missing for over a week. Investigate the scene and work out what happened to make your escape! With our centres being based in city centre locations in Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff and our newest addition in Chester, you can easily make a day of treating that special someone who already has everything! You could add a game of Breakout to the list of activities for the day as each game lasts for an hour, so if you're giving the gift of a day out in the city, a stop off at Breakout can be a nice break from the cold weather of the Christmas markets or a way to get your brain into gear after a meal out. We're open from 10am to 10pm seven days a week, so even if the person who receives a game with us a gift is always busy, it should be easy to find a time that suits them to come down and play! If this is your thing then visit the website of the city you're interested in sending your loved ones to now! https://breakoutchester.com/blog/post/why-not-lock-up-a-loved-one-this-christmas Wed, 07 Dec 2016 17:17:48 +0000 Popular Breakout Cardiff room “Disturbed” comes to Chester The popular room ldquo;Disturbedrdquo; is set to open in Chester on Friday the 27th January. With Vacancy, Wanted and Identify having come from the Manchester site, our next additions will be courtesy of our Welsh counterparts over in Cardiff and offers something for the thrill seekers amongst us. As the name may suggest, the theme to the room is one of a more unnerving naturehellip;.nbsp; nbsp; ldquo;Your colleague, and friend, PC Richards has been missing for over a week. His last known location is an old abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town which he had gone to investigate one night after work. His obsession with a closed kidnapping case had left him paranoid and wanting to investigate more. You decide to go to the abandoned warehouse to see if you can find any clues as to where he may have gone. You come across a gruesome crime scene. You have 60 minutes, whilst the tech team have the alarms disabled, to investigate and discover the fate of your friend.rdquo; nbsp; As a word or warning, this room is not for the faint hearted! The room wouldnrsquo;t look out of place in a scene from a Saw movie!nbsp; nbsp; We want to play a gamehellip; https://breakoutchester.com/blog/post/popular-breakout-cardiff-room-disturbed-comes-to-chester Wed, 18 Jan 2017 11:31:01 +0000 Top Tips for Breaking Out of Escape Rooms Escape rooms are sweeping the nation and becoming an increasingly popular activity. People willingly lock themselves in rooms for 60 minutes, and set themselves the task of solving all the clues and puzzles to escape in the given time frame. Some people manage it and some people donrsquo;t, but what are the top tips for breaking out? 1.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Carefully Selecting Your Team Members An integral part of escaping, you have to choose your team before you enter the room based on their individual strengths. You need someone who is good with words for the riddles, numbers for the maths puzzles, someone who thinks outside the box, and someone who takes things at face value and possibly most importantly; someone who has a complex, high functioning mind palace - much like Sherlock Holmes. nbsp;2.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Make Sure You Really Like Your Chosen Team Mates Escape rooms are highly stressful and pressurised environments that tend to show the true colours of all the people that enter them. The rising pressure of the countdown can lead to tension between team members and you need to be able to withstand that. Wasting time arguing with your team really will not help you to escape the room ndash; you need to focus your energy on the puzzles at hand. nbsp;3.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Analysing the Situation at Hand As a team you need to know when to split up and when to stick together, sometimes the most effective way to get through a room is to split up and work on puzzles separately but other times puzzles need the brain power of as many people as possible. In these rooms, you need to be able to judge which is needed. nbsp;4.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Make an Action Plan Action plans are seriously underrated when tackling an escape room. Entering a room and thinking ahead are seriously beneficial things to do; dividing your team up based on their strengths and weaknesses, anticipating how many rooms and how many puzzles there are, and planning how to spend your time effectively are all components of a successful action plan. nbsp;5.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Decision Making Point 2 brings me to point 3, decision making skills are essential. You need to be able to decide when to leave puzzles alone and come back to them later to prevent wasting any time. If yoursquo;re stuck on a puzzle you need to be able to make the executive decision to move on. nbsp;6.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Managing Your Time It sounds obvious, but managing your time in an escape room can be the difference between whether or not you break out. If yoursquo;re spending 20 minutes on one puzzle, in all likelihood yoursquo;re not escaping. Itrsquo;s important to be able to look at the time you have remaining and judge how much of the room you have left and portion your time out correctly. nbsp;7.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Be Suspicious of Everything Yes, sometimes that every day item is a genuine clue. Plain sight is often the best hiding place, and the people that design these rooms know this. Almost nothing is in that room by accident and anything can be a clue. However, sometimes there are red herrings to draw you away from the path yoursquo;re meant to be on ndash; we can be that mean. So be suspicious of everything, except things that are red herringshellip; Sorry. nbsp;8.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Communicate With Your Team An effective team is a team that can communicate their thoughts coherently. One team member may notice something that others do not, and if it is not passed onto the rest of the team then an important clue may be missed. Just because you canrsquo;t link it to another puzzle definitely does not mean itrsquo;s unconnected. If you think of a solution to a puzzle but it doesnrsquo;t work, other team members may be able to take your idea and expand on it to correctly solve the puzzle. https://breakoutchester.com/blog/post/ Sat, 11 Feb 2017 21:52:04 +0000 Breakout's next Charity Day is Thursday 30th March 2017 Itrsquo;s that time of year again where Breakout try to pay back to the community. The two charity days we hold each year are really important to Breakout and who we are, because wersquo;re aware we wouldnrsquo;t be here without the people of the cities wersquo;re based in. We held our first charity day in April 2015 at our flagship Manchester branch and each time wersquo;ve done one since itrsquo;s got bigger and bigger, and now involves the sales of all of our rooms becoming charitable donations and a way of getting local charities actively involved in what we do. And by all our rooms we mean at all four cities, so thatrsquo;s Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff and Chester all trying to help in the small way we can. In 2016 we raised over pound;6000 with our charity days and we strive to smash that target this year as well. We dedicate certain rooms to the different charities, and then any sales during the day time from that game become donations for them. In the evenings we tend to give these games to the charities themselves to do with as they will. Some sell them on to members and patrons, others get sponsorship for their service users to play and some even raffle their games off. It is completely free for them to do as they will. Chester is a really new centre for Breakout so this time around wersquo;re just donating to our charities, but come October and our next charity we already have things in motion to let the charities take full advantage. Selecting our charities is a careful process, there are some that are just close to our hearts and others that we find from the local area (as much as possible). This time around the charities wersquo;re working with are: Parkinsonrsquo;s UK, Joining Jack, Cheshire Search and Rescue and Nightingale House Hospice. Cheshire Search and Rescue were one of our most successful charities on our last charity day. Cheshire Search and Rescue are a completely voluntary based charity who work to help find those who are lost in Cheshire. Sometimes we donrsquo;t think of Cheshire as a dangerous area, but there is actually an exceptionally large amount of woodland, quarries and moors so there are, in fact, many hazardous areas. As well as countryside based operations, Cheshire Search and find vulnerable people who have either ran away, or left their safe space and donrsquo;t have the capacity to find their way home. We can often be scared enough when we find ourselves alone, but throw in a dangerous environment and this becomes unsafe very quickly. Manchester are still supporting Cheshire Search and Rescue this charity day, but with Chester now in the game, it was lovely to be able to give them more. Nightingale House Hospice is a special charity that is very important to Breakout. It is based in the Wrexham area, as well as the day care unit yoursquo;d expect from a hospice, they work tirelessly to provide extensive Palliative Care Services ndash; Free of Charge. These include bereavement support services, an outpatient clinic, inpatient ward, specialist lymphedema unit, occupational therapy, complementary therapy, physiotherapy inc hydrotherapy pool and ambulance service. Joining Jack are a charity dedicated to raising money to support research to try and end Duchennersquo;s Muscular Dystrophy. This muscle breakdown affects 1 in every 3,500 male children worldwide. And last but not least, Parkinson's UK strive to support people with Parkinsonrsquo;s in the UK. They put a lot of effort into research to find new treatments to help those with the disease are working towards curing the disease completely one day. Between now and the date wersquo;ll release on twitter which games support which charities, but all of them are fantastic causes so there really is no better time to play than our charity day! https://breakoutchester.com/blog/post/breakouts-next-charity-day-is-thursday-30th-march-2017 Wed, 15 Mar 2017 19:06:15 +0000 Excalibur awaits . . . Congregating from Cardiff, Liverpool and Manchester, our Breakout managers from these sites will be manning our very own stall at the Comic Con event. Following our subsequent success at Birmingham Comic Con, we will be utilising three 'pop-up' games, all of which will last 30 minutes (differing slightly from our standard 1-hour escape room games). A brief overview of the games can be displayed below: Vigilante Story: Your friend has been acting strange for a while, and you suspect he is the infamous superhero Breakout Boy. You have snuck into his bedroom to try and find as much evidence as possible, and stumble across his secret lair. You must collect the pieces of his costume before he returns home, to confront him with the truth. Defuse Story: Go and defuse the device to save Comic Con! Premise: Teams have to pass a series of tasks in order to 'defuse' the device. Once the device is defused, they obtain a code to begin unlocking boxes to find a key to escape. We've themed the puzzles for the device around characters from Marvel, with a 'dungeons and dragons' esque character sheet. In addition to this, some board game related aspects feature, also. Our third and final pop-up game will make its grand debut at the MCM London Comic Con event, so if you've already encountered us at previous events, fear not - we have something fresh to bring to the table! Should you and your friends wish to get stuck in, the pop-up rooms cost pound;8 per person, with a maximum of 6 people in a room at a time. So, if you see us at the event, feel free to pop down and say hi - unlike Venom, we don't bite (sorry, we couldn't resist!). We look forward to seeing you there! With Christmas on the horizon, the pressure is on to find that perfect Christmas gift. Instead of fighting your way through the shops during this busy festive period, why not head over to the Breakout website and buy your loved ones a voucher for one of our escape rooms. It's the perfect way to spend time with your family and friends! So, what is Breakout? Breakout is the real-life escape room experience which puts all your skill and mental ability to the test. You'll have to solve a series of puzzles, riddles and clues in one of our themed rooms and see if you can escape. But you better watch out, you've only got an hour to do it! This may sound like a breeze to you having a full 60 minutes to get out, however with teams of 2-5 people, you'll need work together as a well-oiled machine to get out before the clock hits zero.nbsp; What's more, it can be a pesky task guessing when will be best for them to play. But not to worry, you can simply buy the voucher and they can pick the time and room that suits them best! When they're ready to book, all they need to do is simply head over to our website and use the voucher code to redeem a game from one of our 8 amazing rooms. Each room is a unique experience with its own individual theme, whether you're trying to find out who the killerrsquo;s victims are in Identify or escaping a satanic ritual you never wanted to be a part of in Forsaken. Choosing a room to play can be daunting, so it's always a good idea to book a room based on your own personal likes and interests. For example, if it's fantasy realms, magical kingdoms and everything in between that floats your boat, then Dark Magic and Excalibur are the perfect games for you to play. In Dark Magic, you and your fellow wizards have stumbled down a dark passage and found an old room long forgotten by time. As you explore, you feel a dark and mysterious presence all around you. You'll need to put all your magical skills to the test! Excalibur places you in the heart of medieval times, as you and your fellow knights have found yourselves thrown into a cell whilst imposters have stolen your place at the round table. You'll have to act to fast and free yourself before they return. It is you who has the power to pull Excalibur from the stone and prove you are worthy. With Breakout being situated in the middle of Chester city centre, you won't be short of things to do before and after you play. FIRSTnbsp;things FIRST, what inspired you to open Breakout Chester?nbsp; The way Breakout Chester came to being is a strange story that begins with music! We DJ'd over in Ibiza for Ed, the owner of Manchester, Liverpool and formerly Cardiff, and he told us about his escape rooms. On returning home we went to Manchester to visit the rooms and were instantly hooked. We'd often spoke about our different business ventures with Ed, and he asked if we'd be interested in opening a Breakout in Chester. Having had so much fun playing them we couldn't say no and the rest is history. nbsp; 2. What are your future plans for Breakout Chester? Next on the agenda is the opening of our 9th room Forgotten Tomb. This one has been a work in progress for a while now and is almost ready to launch. The disruption and closure of the centre due to covid-19 has had an effect on the planned launch date, but it's almost finished and we can't wait for you to play! Once this room launches, we will have hit the maximum capacity for this building so in terms of what lies ahead, we'll have to wait and see!nbsp;nbsp; nbsp; 3. Do you think escape rooms have a shelf life? Part of me would like to think that they don't but I guess nearly everything has a shelf life. I think the most important thing for us is to make sure we keep innovating and coming up with new interesting ideas. I think what makes escape rooms such a popular activity is that it brings people together, and creates a unique, exciting experience that is completely different to every day life. So I think as long as we keep innovating, I can't see any reason why escape rooms won't be around for a very long time.nbsp; nbsp; 4. What is your favourite room and why? : Dave: Even though it's not open to the public yet, our new room Forgotten Tomb is already my favourite. We've spent so much time and effort designing the room and designing and developing the puzzles, I think that once we're open this will be our best room. Mike: Dark Magic. This is by far one of my favourite rooms we have a Chester, not only because we designed. it in house, but the way the puzzles work is as close to magic as you can get. I won't say anymore in case it spoils it for others but it's a really fun room that we all love. nbsp; 5. A random question, what's your favourite website: www. cat-bounce.com/ nbsp; 6. How important do you think social media has been for Breakout? Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and been of vital importance to the development of Breakout. Those platforms have allowed us to connect and communicate with our audience over the past 3 years and wersquo;ve worked hard to build up our presence on these sites, whether that be from sharing informative posts about Breakout, creating teaser videos for the rooms or sharing all of your team photos on our Facebook page. nbsp; 7. What effect do you think Covid - 19 will have on your business?nbsp; .com/ Firstly our thoughts go out to everyone who has been affected by the virus. This is a really tough time for everyone and I don't think there will be a single person who isn't affected in some way by the virus. That being said, we'll all bounce back and will be stronger and more resilient than before the virus hit. In terms of Breakout, it's had a huge impact with us having to close the centre. I think now, we just need to look forward and plan for when we re-open. With everyone having been stuck at home for weeks, I think we'll see an influx of people wanting to get out and do things so I think we'll be back up and running fairly quickly once we reopen. Before the lockdown and our government closure, we had already put some social distancing measures in place to ensure the safety of the public as well as our staff and we will look to keep many of these practices in place even after we reopen. nbsp; 8. Finally, you were educated through the Welsh language. Can you say something in welsh please? Cenedl heb iaith, cenedl heb galon - A nation without a language is a nation without a heart. https://breakoutchester.com/blog/post/an-interview-with-the-breakout-chester-owners Tue, 28 Apr 2020 11:12:43 +0100 Don't Break Up … Break OUT!
